Tips for floor heating

Floor heating

Floor heating works with a water temperature of up to 35 degrees in winter. This is much lower than with a central heating boiler and radiators. Therefore, floor heating combined with a heat pump takes slightly longer to bring the room to the desired temperature.

Floor heating responds more slowly than radiators. It is therefore better to leave the thermostat at a fixed temperature rather than frequently turning it up or down. Reduce the temperature as little as possible at night, because heating up takes (a lot of) time and energy. A reduction of 1 or 2 degrees is usually sufficient.

Changes to the thermostat are not immediately noticeable. It can take several hours for the room to heat up or cool down completely.

The right floor for floor heating

With floor heating, it is important to choose a floor and underlay that do not insulate too much. The heat must be able to pass through the floor. Floor tiles, linoleum/marmoleum and PVC floors are ideal for this, unlike laminate flooring and carpet.

Keep the floor clear

Large rugs, thick carpets or furniture without space underneath can reduce heat output.

Vacation mode

Are you significantly lowering the temperature when you go on vacation? If so, bear in mind that it can take three days for the property to return to the desired temperature.

Do not leave windows open for longer than necessary

Ventilating for a long time causes heat loss. Short, intensive ventilation is usually sufficient.
