Explanation of the compensation and repayment scheme
Under the Heating Act, you may be entitled to compensation in certain situations if the heat supply is interrupted.
1. Compensation scheme in the event of a serious disruption
If the heat supply is interrupted for a prolonged period due to a disruption in:
- the heat network;
- the connection to your home;
- the pipework system in a building with multiple homes; or
- the heat delivery unit (if this is owned by the heat supplier),
You may be entitled to compensation.
This scheme only applies in the event of an unexpected disruption where no heat is supplied. Planned works are not covered by this scheme if you were informed of them at least three days in advance. Disruptions in your own internal installation are also not covered by this scheme.
If there is a serious disruption, the affected consumers will automatically receive the compensation amount in accordance with the statutory scheme.
2. Repayment scheme in the event of limited heat supply
Sometimes heat is still supplied, but it does not meet the agreed quality standards. In that case, the repayment scheme may apply.
Whether this is the case is assessed on the basis of the quality agreements set out in the supply agreement and the technical specifications.
Would you like to use the repayment scheme? You must submit your request in writing within 30 days after you established, or could reasonably have established, that the heat supply was limited.
In brief:
- No heat due to a serious disruption? The compensation scheme may apply.
- Heat is available, but not in up to the agreaad-upon quality? The repayment scheme may apply.
A request for repayment must be submitted in writing within 30 days.
